During her campaign, Funke Akindele was chased out of the Lagos market

Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress and PDP candidate for deputy governor in Lagos State, was campaigning when she was chased out of the Ikosi fruit market on Tuesday by alleged thugs.

In an interview with NAN, the PDP governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, more commonly referred to as Jandor, confirmed that their campaign was halted as a result of the incident.

Jandor confirmed the stabbing of a member of the security team and the injuries sustained by others, including journalists, during a meeting with the chief Imam of Ketu Central Mosque.

He did, however, confirm that the actress left the campaign trail as the group continued to move through the council's streets.

Jandor cried out in October 2022 over similar incidents that had occurred on multiple occasions in various local government areas since he began his tour of 245 wards.

In an interview with Premium Times, PDP Lagos spokesperson Hakeem Amode claimed that the local government chairperson sent the crooks to disrupt their campaign.

He stated, " Funke Akindele typically visits the market to speak with the market women. We are aware that it is our right to freely communicate with anyone.

He said that Abolanle Bada, the Chairperson of the Ikosi LCDA, brought thugs to intimidate them.

He stated, " The local government chairperson entered the market, used her car to block the area, and brought a group of hoodlums to attack us in the Kosofe local government, which is extremely regrettable; It is unbelievable that we cannot freely communicate with others.

“We are free to campaign wherever we want under the new electoral act; This is Lagos, where we ought to be able to converse with everyone without fear of retaliation. That shouldn't even take place,” he continued.

Additionally, he asserted that it was not the first time it had occurred.

In addition to the crooks, Mr. Hakeem revealed that the intimidation has progressed beyond the harassment during the market campaigns.

“Those to whom we gave our campaign materials have gone to ask them not to come to the market and evict them from their homes; They came to our campaign offices in tears. These are market women who paid for the market stalls they use.

“Why should we escalate our members' harassment and intimidation to this level? Even female marketers."

He said that they had been attacked in other markets once more.

According to Mr. Hakeem, the team had no choice but to withdraw and join Jandor, where he was campaigning, so that the conflict wouldn't get any worse.

On Tuesday, the PRO presented videos to support his claim that the Chairperson of the Ikosi LCDA was to blame for the illegal behavior.

Response from APC When PREMIUM TIMES called the All Progressive Congress (APC) spokesperson in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, regarding the allegations, he denied having knowledge of the aforementioned event.

He stated, " The PDP members are well-known for making outrageous claims; I believe that the security agencies would be interested in what happened if people were attacked; I don't think taking it to the media is the answer.

"We are not in the business of violence as far as we are concerned; Why should we be distracted by people who can't even get their house in order and want to become government when our party is aiming for victory?

Mr. Oladejo asserted that the APC is not under any pressure to win the election and advised any party that felt threatened to sue.

In July 2022, the actress, better known by her stage name Jenifa, was unveiled as Jandor's running mate in her hometown of Ikorodu.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo, and Rasheed Teslim-Balogun were among the five candidates that Jandor selected.
